Hello and Happy New Year everyone! I hope you had a wonderful holiday season and are looking forward to the new year. I am looking forward to what 2014 will bring and am excited about some projects I'll be working on. My goal (and word) for this year is depth. My desire is to become more focused and go deeper in specific areas of my art versus simply adding more stuff to my plate. As part of this goal, I've decided that any classes I take need to have a direct relationship to my areas of focus. One class I'm taking which fits the bill is Danita's Mixed Media From the Heart online course. Her approach is to teach you about her creative process as a way to help you find your own voice as an artist. I was drawn to her course because she has a great sense of story and this is what I want to focus on this year. Not just making pretty pieces of art, but really telling a story. I've completed 2 paintings so far and had a lot of fun with both. here is the first one. This first one is on an 8"x8" canvas and is using some hand-carved stamps, paper for her dress and boots and and antique wash. What I learned is that I love it when I see the work of other artist that is vintage or antique; but this is not really my style. I prefer bright colors. So with that in mind I started working on my second canvas. Here are the results. I found that I spent a lot more time on this second piece working on the composition and thinking about my colors. I love how this one turned out! It's different, but feels like me. It represents my relationship with my little dog, Stanley Blu. I'd love to hear what you think and look forward to sharing, and hearing your creative stories as you journey into this new year. Always remember to keep creating! Linking to Paint Party Friday.
Oh I love how you found your OWN style in the second one... Wonderful she is adorable...they both are but I prefer the second it seems more you!! I like the vintage look but prefer color too!! I admire artists that take courses but find their own artistic voice! It can be hard to do!! Adorable girls....can't wait to see more! Your style is exciting, vibrant, and very personable. I love the action between the girl and her dog. Thank you for showing the work in progress and the finished product. I love how you went from plain background to a wonderfully colored and textured one. Beautiful work of art. Hope to see more and more of your works.
